Electromyography (EMG) is a technique for evaluating and recording the electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles.
A nerve conduction study (NCS) is used to evaluate the electrical conduction of the motor and sensory nerves of the human body.
Electroencephalography (EEG) is the recording of electrical activity along the scalp produced by the firing of neurons within the brain.
EEG records the brain’s spontaneous electrical activity over a short period of time, usually 60 minutes. It is a painless method using multiple electrodes placed on the scalp.
A home sleep test is a very simplified way to test for sleep apnea in the comfort of your own home. The device measures your breathing, oxygen levels, and breathing effort.
It does not fully capture what is monitored with an overnight sleep study. Overnight in-lab sleep studies give a more thorough assessment of sleep disorders including parasomnias, narcolepsy, and various types of sleep apnea. These studies can be arranged at one of our locally affiliated sleep labs.
In persons with headache disorders for whom oral therapeutics are inadequate, poorly tolerated, or contraindicated, procedural options should be considered.
Procedures can be abortive and/or preventative, as well as diagnostic in some cases. These treatments also vary in invasiveness ranging from peripheral nerve blocks to surgical decompressions.
Trigger point injection (TPI) may be an option for treating pain in some patients. TPI is a procedure used to treat painful areas of muscle that contain trigger points, or knots of muscle that form when muscles do not relax.
Many times, such knots can be felt under the skin. Trigger points may irritate the nerves around them and cause referred pain, or pain that is felt in another part of the body.
